60 Years of Hodgkin and Huxley model2012-02-09

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the publication of the Hodgkin-Huxley model of the action potential the meeting will be held at Trinity College, Cambridge, UK on July 12 - 13, 2012.

The meeting organizers are now soliciting proposals for 30 minute contributed oral presentations on topics related to the Hodgkin / Huxley model and its impact.  The deadline for submitting proposals is February 15, 2012. Those accepted to present talks will have registration and housing fees waved.  Proposals for talks should be sent to Simon O'Connor simon.oconnor@btinternet.com, in the form of a title, a single paragraph description of the talk (500 words), and recent relevant papers by the author.

The meeting will also include an open poster session for any participant who would like to present their work.  There are travel funds available for students making poster presentations.

Events for young researchers during FENS Forum in Barcelona 2012-01-30

Two interesting events will be organized during the FENS Forum in Barcelona, for young researchers:

a day-long symposium focused on science communication, leadership and professional skills, specifically oriented to PhD students and young post-doctoral fellows - July 13, 2012, all day - Application deadline: February 5th

a NENS workshop offering information and interaction with partners from the academia, industry, public services and publishers,      about career profiles and job opportunities for young investigators in neuroscience - July 15, 2012, 18:45-20:30  - Application deadline: March 5th


NENS Stipends for Training Stays 2012-01-30

The stipends are intended for Master and PhD students registered within NENS member schools or programmes. Applicants are expected to spend a period of one to three months at a NENS member school of their choice in a different European country for the purpose of methodological training.  Stipends will cover travel and accommodation costs of up to up to 2'000 euros.

The Seventeenth Advanced Course in Computational Neuroscience (ACCN) will be held at the Mathematical Research and Conference Center (MRCC) in the village Bedlewo in Poland. The ACCN is for advanced graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who are interested in learning the essentials of the field of computational neuroscience.

In the mornings distinguished international faculty lectures on topics across the breadth of experimental and computational neuroscience. During the rest of the day, students pursue a project of their choosing under close supervision of expert tutors.

The course is designed for students from a variety of disciplines, including neuroscience, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics and psychology. Students are expected to have a keen interest and basic background in neurobiology as well as some computer experience.


SfN School - Chemical Senses: Neurobiology and Behavior 2012-01-16

The Chemical Senses: Neurobiology and Behavior School will cover the basics of the Chemical Senses, the latest developments, and will highlight open questions for future research, so that participants will learn the state of the art of olfactory and taste systems. The school will be held in Bertinoro, Italy, June 03 - 08, 2012.

The aim of the Okinawa Computational Neuroscience Course is to provide opportunities for young researchers with theoretical backgrounds to learn the latest advances in neuroscience, and for those with experimental backgrounds to have hands-on experience in computational modeling.

We invite graduate students and postgraduate researchers to participate in the course, held from June 11th through June 29th, 2012 at an oceanfront seminar house of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology.
Applications are through the course web page only; they will open January 9th and close February 12th, 2012. Applicants are required to propose a project at the time of application. Applicants will receive confirmation of acceptance in March.

Nagroda im. Jerzego Konorskiego 20112011-09-10
